Italy 2010 - Part 1: Rome
Pictures from our visits in Rome. We were staying in Frascati in Barts appartment, and took the train to the eternal city to walk around and enjoy.
There is of course not enough time to visit everything, but we at least saw the highlights such as the Coliseum, the Vatican (and its museum), the Forum Romanum, the Spanish Steps, the Pantheon and plenty of other monuments.
Italy 2010 - Part 2: Villa Hadriana
The Villa Hadriana was a domain with a large Villa constructed by Roman emperor Hadrian in the 2nd century which he used it as a retreat from Rome. A large domain with lots of
interesting things to see.
Again, as with Rome, enough to walk around more than one day.
Italy 2010 - Part 3: Around Rome
Except for Rome and Tivoli (with the Villa Hadriana) we also visited some small, typical places in the neighbourhood, all guided by Bart. There was for example the beach of
Sabaudia, where also the Romans go, the small village of Sermoneta, Nemi, Castello Gandalfo (where the pope has his residence).
Italy 2010 - Part 4: Orvieto and Siena
After Rome we went to Tuscany for one week. Mostly to relax and do nothing, but we also visited Orvieto and Siena.
Italy 2010 - Part 5: Villagio di Modanella
We spent our week in Tuscany in Modanella, more precisely in the Villagio di Modanella, an ancient domain with castle that has been changed into appartments with restaurant and
swimming pool.
Italy 2010 - Part 6: Lucerne
When driving home we stayed in Lucerne, in Switzerland. Although there are beautiful views and the city has its charm, it is totally different from what Rome and Tuscany have to offer.
